Umpqua Community College’s men’s wrestling team had three second place finishes, three thirds and two fourths at Saturday’s Boxer Open at Stoller Athletic Center at Pacific University.

Johnny Maldonado (133), Sawyer Myres (149) and Jesse Ramirez (165) had second place finishes for the Riverhawks.

Maldonado won three rounds — two by fall, one by decision— but fell to Shandon Akea of Highline Community College.

Myres dropped a 9-3 decision to Highline’s Ethan Wendell in the first-place match. Ramirez had two wins before falling to Kaleb Winebarger of Pacific University in the first place match.

Victor Perez (125), Garrett Russell (149) and Gottlieb Davis (184) finished third.

Russell, a Roseburg High graduate, fell in the semifinal to Highline’s Wendell, but fought his way back by winning the consolation semifinal over Pacific University’s Mike Day and the third place match over Samuel Cortez of Pacific University. Fourth-place finishers were Richard Rolfe (133) and Adam Lamb (285).

Grant Laiblin (141), Josh Hammers (174) and Brayden Schultz (197) also competed.
