NORTH BEND — Austin Luzier allowed two runs in four innings and belted a two-run double to help lead Dr. Randol’s to a 9-4 victory over South Medford in the first round of the American Legion baseball Class A state tournament at Clyde Allen Ballpark in North Bend.

The Crowns (15-11) advance to play the winner of the Klamath Falls-North Coos contest at 6 p.m. Thursday. North Coos is the tournament host, and swept the Crowns in their Area 4 North season series.

Donovan Hargraves batted 2-for-3 with an RBI for Dr. Randol’s, and Brett Narkiewitz also had an RBI in the victory.

The Crowns led 3-2 entering the bottom of the fourth, but scored five times in that inning to create some separation. Luzier’s double came in that offensive outburst.

Dr. Randol’s had 11 free bases via either walk or hit-by-pitch.

“As you get deeper in the playoffs you look to clean some things up,” Crowns coach Noah Miller said. “Hopefully we have the right mindset and do that.”

The Crowns did have four errors in the game, while Luzier and reliever Rylan Watkins combined on a three-hitter.
