The Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club is planning to hike to Pine Bench in the Boulder Creek Drainage Area Feb. 24.

The Boulder Creek Wilderness was caught in last summer’s wildfires. The area usually experiences fire about every five years, which results in open meadows and Ponderosa pines. The hike to Pine Bench is about a 5-mile round trip, while those hiking to Boulder Creek will hike 9 miles.

Those wanting to carpool should be prepared to share gas expenses and meet before 8 a.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse parking lot in Roseburg.
