The Pepsi Bottlecaps and Umpqua Lions, Roseburg’s two American Legion baseball Class A teams, open play in the state tournament on Wednesday at North Marion High School in Aurora.

Pepsi (21-7), which won the Area 4 North title, will meet the South Medford Colts at 2 p.m. Umpqua (14-14), the third-place team from the North, will face North Willamette Valley, the host team, at 8 p.m.

In other first-round games, the North Medford Mavericks take on the Portland Eastside Cutters at 11 a.m. and the North Coos Waterfront will meet the La Grande Legends at 5 p.m. North Medford won the Area 4 South crown.

The Bottlecaps and South Medford have played each other once this season, with the Colts defeating Pepsi 5-0 at Bill Gray Stadium at Legion Field on July 1.

The double-elimination tournament runs through Sunday, with the championship game scheduled for 1 p.m. A second game, if necessary, would follow.
