EUGENE — The South Umpqua girls fell short of a top four finish at the OSAA Class 4A cross country championships on Saturday, taking eighth at Lane Community College.

The Lancers had a score of 206. Tillamook easily won the team title with 37 points, followed by Scappoose (108), La Grande (111) and Sisters (148).

Senior Savannah Slay was South Umpqua’s top finisher, placing 31st (20:59) over 5,000 meters. Junior Aneykah McCall was 34th (21:10) and freshman Haven Pickup finished 51st (21:54).

Sophomore Solace Bergeron of Tillamook won the race (18:44).

Roseburg junior Hunter Agsten finished 53rd (16:59) in the 6A boys race. Agsten was the Indians’ lone state qualifier.

“I’m happy with my performance. I gave it my all,” Agsten said. “The couple of hills there were intense ... when I got to the top I just tried to push through. It was a different experience in that everyone was running close together, unlike prior races. I was able to to run with more people my speed.”

Senior Alex Slenning of Wilson won the race (15:41), seven seconds ahead of runner-up Zane Fodge of McMinnville.

The team championship went to Jesuit (35). Central Catholic (127) was second, Franklin (129) third and South Eugene (136) fourth.

Jesuit (47) also won the 6A girls crown, beating out Sunset (85), St. Mary’s Academy (140) and Lincoln (141).

Junior Makenna Schumacher of Jesuit (17:45) won the individual title. Freshman Emma Schmerbach of South Medford placed seventh (18:26).

Crook County of Prineville (80) won the 4A boys team championship, followed by Stayton (96), Newport (119) and Tillamook (121).

Senior John Kavulich of Scappoose (16:23) was the individual champion. South Umpqua senior Nakai Sinohui (17:33) was 31st.

Crater of Central Point (32) rolled to the 5A boys team title. Ashland (83) was second, Marist (120) third and Bend (121) fourth.

Senior Andy Monroe of Crater (15:19) won the individual crown, nipping sophomore Evan Holland (15:19) of Ashland.

Summit of Bend (15) posted a perfect team score en route to winning the 5A girls team championship. Senior Taylor Vandenborn (18:28) of Summit was the individual winner.

Union (42) won the 3A/2A/1A boys team title. Senior Alex Graffunder of Union (15:33) won the race.

Enterprise (63) was first in the 3A/2A/1A girls team race. Senior Maya Rayle of Catlin Gabel (18:33) claimed the individual crown.
