KLAMATH FALLS — No. 5 Hosanna Christian built a 38-0 lead through three quarters and held on to defeat North Douglas 50-14 in the first round of the OSAA Class 1A eight-man football playoffs.
Lions quarterback Waylon Cole threw for two scores and ran for another in the first half as H.C. (9-1) led 22-0 at the break.
North Douglas (6-4) ended seven scoreless quarters in the fourth period when QB Brandon Rundell's pass to tight end Jake Gerrard went 66 yards for a touchdown.
The Warriors final points came on a 51-yard shovel pass from Rundell to Gerardo Alcantar for a touchdown, and Rundell's pass to Devin Davidge for the two-point conversion.
The loss marked the final game for coach JJ Mast. Also the athletic director at North Douglas, Mast announced on Thursday that the Warriors' final game this season would be his last as coach, writing "Time for new things. I'm sure I will miss it but it's time" in a comment.
In the post announcing his decision, Mast wrote: "I have coached some great kids and been lucky to work with some amazing parents. I have been blessed to finish up with some kids and people that are pretty special to me."
