WINSTON — Douglas got some revenge on South Umpqua on Tuesday night in the Far West League girls basketball rivalry game, blowing out the Lancers, 48-27, in the Trojans’ gym.
The Trojans lost to S.U., 35-27, in a nonleague contest Dec. 8 at Douglas.
Senior guard Lainey Rincon was the leading scorer for Douglas (8-7, 1-1 FWL) Tuesday with 15 points and added five assists. Colleen Jackson had 10 points, Calyissa Anderson chipped in eight points, Kaylie Hall made five steals, and freshman Amy Dickover contributed seven points and seven rebounds in the victory.
“I really appreciated the girls’ effort right from the start when they came out with intensity and they executed the game plan well and just played basketball and came out with a win,” Trojans coach Jason Dickover said.
Rincon added, “I think we played really good and definitely handled the ball well and defended our home court with great execution.”
Junior Tayah Kelley led the Lancers (7-8, 1-1) with 11 points.
“This game was very different from how we normally play and I don’t believe that we played to our full potential at all tonight and it’s disappointing to see that,” S.U. coach Keri Vermillion said.
The Trojans shot well in taking a 19-9 advantage after one quarter, sinking four 3-pointers. Anderson hit two treys, and Hall and Jackson each hit one during the period.
Douglas turned the game into a rout by outscoring S.U. 15-4 in the third quarter.
Douglas’ next game will be 6 p.m. Friday at home against Siuslaw. South Umpqua travels to Marshfield Friday.
