MERLIN — The losing steak is over.
Sutherlin snapped a 17-game skid dating back to 2015 with a 39-32 nonleague football win over North Valley Friday night. The game was originally scheduled for Sutherlin, but smoky skies moved the contest to Josephine County.
Junior Cade Meisner sparked the win, throwing four touchdown passes and running for the winning score. Meisner had an 8-yard TD run with 2:59 left in the contest.
Zach Yarbrough preserved the win for the Bulldogs (1-2), intercepting a pass inside the Sutherlin 20 with around 15 seconds left.
Bryce Anderson and Korbyn Jones each caught a pair of scoring passes for Sutherlin, which trailed 21-20 at halftime. Conner Grauf added a TD run in the third period.
“It’s nice to pull one out for a change,” said Sutherlin coach Sean Radford. “We’ve been in a lot of those the last few years, so it’s nice to have one finally go our way.”
The Bulldogs host Junction City next Friday in their Sky-Em League opener.
