Umpqua Valley Christian started the season with an 11-2 nonleague baseball win over Cascade Christian Monday at Bill Gray Stadium at Legion Field.

Cascade Christian (0-1) was up 2-0 after three innings, but the Monarchs (1-0) were able to score two runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie up the game. UVC took the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out single by Tyson Sanders.

"Jacob Luther gave us a nice outing for game one and KC Pettibone had a good day at the plate," UVC coach Dave York said.

Luther pitched for six innings and was able to keep the Challengers from scoring after the third inning.

Pettibone had a double and a single in the game.
