MAPLETON — North Douglas got a big road win Friday, defeating Mapleton 50-42 in a Special District 1 football matchup.
Cal Parks had 12 rushes for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Jake Gerrard had two catches for 30 yards and two touchdowns for the Warriors (5-2, 3-1).
"It was a defensive battle in the fourth quarter. Our defense held them at the 10 yard line to prevent them from tying it," North Douglas coach Rocky Rodgers said. "We were able to drive the ball and run out the clock. Our defense played well, against JJ Neece and his talent. We just got to get better next week. That's been our motto this year."
JJ Neece, a sophomore for Mapleton, had 29 carries for 216 yards and three touchdowns. Neece is leading rusher in the league.
Killion Bond led North Douglas in tackles.
The win guarantees the Warriors will finish in the top three in Special District 1, assuring they will make the playoffs.
North Douglas hosts league-leading Lowell in its regular season finale next Friday.
