SWEET HOME — Sutherlin started Sky-Em League girls basketball play Friday with a streak-busting 59-26 win over Sweet Home.

Kiersten Haines led the Bulldogs (6-9, 1-0) with 20 points. Sutherlin had lost its last six games entering league play.

Carmen Ganger had her first varsity start and was the second leading scorer with 14 points against Sweet Home (1-13, 0-1). Ganger was 6-for-8 from the free throw line.

Sutherlin will travel to Elmira on Tuesday for the third game of its five-game road trip.

SUTHERLIN (59) — Kiersten Haines 20, Ganger 14, Bailey 13, Porter 6, Masterfield 3, McHugill 2, Carrillo 1, Carpine, Whelchel, Candelaria. Totals 19 16-27 59.
