COTTAGE GROVE — The Sutherlin girls soccer team notched an important win on the road Thursday with a 1-0 Sky-Em League victory over Cottage Grove.

The Bulldogs (7-4-1, 5-2-1 Sky-Em) have clinched second place behind Junction City in the league standings and will likely host a Class 4A play-in game.

Hadley Brooksby scored the lone goal of the contest in the 27th minute off an assist from Raichel Wolfe.

Sophomore Kiersten Haines and senior Taylor Moser combined for the shutout. Haines left the contest late after getting kicked in the face and Moser finished the game as the goalkeeper. Sutherlin coach Jennifer Bird said the entire defensive line played well.

The Bulldogs host Sweet Home Tuesday in a league game.
