GLIDE — The South Umpqua Lancers scored on a penalty kick and that was the difference in a 1-0 win over the Glide Wildcats on Friday in a Special District 4 girls soccer match.

The Lancers improved to 3-6-2 overall and 3-2-2 in league, while the Wildcats fell to 0-8-1 and 0-6-1.

Jenna Castro scored for S.U. in the 21st minute. Lancers coach Kami Wright said defender Madison Shepherd, left winger Josie Maddux and right winger Shilo Christensen had strong games. Goalkeeper Kyla Pires made eight saves.

"It was a good fight," said Glide coach Tyrone Wing, reflecting on the game.

South Umpqua will host Douglas on Monday. Glide hosts Coquille Tuesday.
