SUTHERLIN — The Sutherlin girls soccer team held on for a 5-4 win over Cascade Christian in a nonleague game on Tuesday at the Bulldogs' field.

Sophomore Jadyn Vermillion scored a hat trick for the Bulldogs (3-1). The transfer from South Umpqua scored two goals in the first half off assists from Megan Carrillo.

Carrillo also scored in the first half, giving Sutherlin a 3-1 advantage. Vermillion found the back of the net in the second half, then Carrillo's goal on a penalty kick with around five minutes left was the deciding score.

Sutherlin coach Miguel Carrillo lauded the efforts of Shakiya Candelaria and goalkeeper Kiersten Haines.

The Bulldogs will host St. Mary's of Medford on Friday in a nonleague contest.
