MERRILL — The fourth-ranked Umpqua Valley Christian baseball team recovered from a four-run deficit, scoring the winning run in the top of the ninth inning to beat Lost River, 5-4, on Thursday in a Special District 4 baseball game.

Jacob Mesa knocked in two runs for the Monarchs (11-4, 7-0 District 4) and Kolby Mahoney scored twice. Jacob Luther, CJ Gale and Jeremiah Geiger also had RBIs.

Aaron Buechley got the pitching decision in relief for UVC, allowing one hit and no runs over five innings with seven strikeouts and three walks. Aiden McAuliffe fanned nine in 5 2/3 innings for the Raiders (8-6, 4-1).
