OAKLAND — The Oakland volleyball team played hard and well at times against Jefferson on Tuesday night in a Central Valley Conference match at the Nut House.

But the Oakers weren't rewarded for it, losing 25-19, 32-30, 24-26, 25-23.

Sophomore Taylor Yard had eight kills and four blocks for Oakland (1-6, 0-3 CVC). Paige Smith contributed seven kills, sophomore Aubry Brownson made 10 assists and chipped in five kills.

Oakland coach Christina Walker-Clark felt Kaylee Simonson and Hannah Cagle had strong matches in the back row.

"We played pretty well tonight," Walker-Clark said. "We had moments where we really stepped up. Our communication as a team was better."

The Oakers travel to Halsey Thursday to face Central Linn.
