EUGENE — South Eugene showed Roseburg why it’s at the top of the Southwest Conference standings with a 5-0 win Wednesday afternoon.

Roseburg (5-5-1, 3-5-1 SWC) fell behind 3-0 by halftime and was unable to catch up to the Axemen (9-2, 8-1). The Tribe remains in fourth place in the conference.

Spencer Smith, Sai Bliss-King, Parker Dixon, Jesus Velazco and Gardy Thurman each scored goals against the Indians.

Roseburg plays at Willamette on Saturday.


Warriors sweep Crosshill

DRAIN — Top-ranked North Douglas rallied in the third set, capping a 25-19, 25-21, 27-25 nonleague volleyball win over No. 3 Crosshill Christian Wednesday night.

The Warriors (24-5, 11-0 Skyline North) overcame 9-0 and 12-2 deficits in the final set to defeat the Eagles (19-3, 10-0 Casco).

Arianna Helgren had 18 kills, 25 digs and five aces for North Douglas. Abby Whipple contributed 13 kills, 24 digs and three aces, Amy Dooley had eight kills and 25 assists, and libero Katelyn Andes made 23 digs.

North Douglas will play its final league match at 6 tonight at Umpqua Valley Christian.
