SUTHERLIN — The Sutherlin volleyball team faced a talented and taller Siuslaw squad on Tuesday in a nonleague match at the Dog Pound.

The Vikings of Florence came away with a 25-21, 25-20, 25-23 victory over the Bulldogs.

Class 4A Siuslaw (4-1) has two 6-footers (Mia Collins and Makenzie York) on its roster and another player (Alyssa Richards) who stands 5-10.

“We played them really tough and they’re really good,” said Sutherlin coach Kathy Rice. “They hit really well. We were ahead for most of the second game, but couldn’t hold on. We’re still struggling with a lack of confidence.”

Freshman Mallory Turner led the 3A Bulldogs with eight kills. Freshman Tianna Murphy added 10 assists and sophomore Deja Yarbrough contributed four kills.

Sutherlin opens Far West League play at home Thursday against Douglas.
