Reedsport will be represented by eight wrestlers at the OSAA Class 2A/1A Championships at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.
The Brave have four seeded wrestlers. Carson Keith (106) and Devin Lichte (182) are the No. 3 seeds, and Dennis Magee (138) and Nick Glover (170) are No. 4 seeds.
Reedsport will also be represented by two girls; Divinity Farris at 113 and Yesenia Velasquez at 120, and two non-seeded boys; River Lichte (138) and Christian Solomon (106).
Riddle’s Diego Rivero will be the No. 4 seed at 220. He will take on Cole Kiesecker of Joseph in the first round.
“Hopefully he can get a win in that first round,” Riddle coach Randy Gunn said. “That’s going to be pretty pivotal on whether he places or not. If he loses that match, it’ll be a mental blow and it’ll be tough to battle back from that.”
Oakland’s Brody Dickson will be competing in the same weight class.
Riddle has three student-athletes at the state tourney. In addition to Rivero, there are Shawn Scott (285) and Donovan Hargraves (160).
Hargraves will take on top-seeded Jerron Rhen of Culver in the first round.
“That’s a tough draw,” Gunn said. “He might end up doing pretty well in the consolation bracket. If we could get two medals out of it, I’d be happy.”
Scott will take on No. 4 seed Travis Jonsson of Neah-Kah-Nie in the first round. The winner of the match will likely face Central Linn’s top-seeded Justin Malone.
“(Scott) has already beaten (Malone), so that’s encouraging,” Gunn said. “He should handle the kid pretty well.”
Scott pinned Malone in 2:33 at the Scio Holiday Tournament on Dec. 9.
Oakland will also be represented by William Powell II (152) and Brayden Tackett (195).
William Kidwell is the lone Glendale wrestler to make it to state. Kidwell will compete at 195.
