HILLSBORO — Roseburg advanced four wrestlers into the championship semifinals after the first day of the Reser’s Tournament of Champions on Friday at Liberty High School.
Newberg led the team standings with 120 points, followed by Dallas (95), Roseburg (91), Crescent Valley (85) and Sweet Home (83.5). Twenty-one teams scored points Friday.
Making it through the quarterfinals without a loss for Roseburg were Kahleb Diaz at 126 pounds, Austin David at 152, Darian Thacker at 160 and Logan Folsom at 170.
The third-seeded Diaz won a pair of matches, including a 9-8 decision over sixth-seeded Wyatt Richardson of Lebanon. Diaz will take on No. 2 Tristin Keffer of Hillsboro in the semifinals.
David, the top seed, won three matches on the day. David posted a 3-1 sudden victory over No. 8 Ernesto Alvarez of Century in the quarterfinals and will wrestle No. 4 Travis Thorpe of Sweet Home in the semis.
Thacker, who went 3-0 on the day, started off the tourney with a 6-2 decision over top-seeded Chase Miller of Lebanon. Thacker scored a 10-5 decision over No. 8 Bryce Miller of Dallas in the quarterfinals and will meet No. 4 Parker Robinson of La Grande in the semis.
The second-seeded Folsom went 2-0, pulling out a 7-5 sudden victory over No. 7 Austin Carter of Redmond in the quarterfinals. Folsom faces No. 6 Hayden McDonald of Sweet Home in the semis.
Roseburg’s Tristin David, the No. 3 seed at 145, was pinned by Crater’s Hunter Hiatt in the quarterfinals. Nash Singleton, the No. 7 seed at 113, lost 7-6 to No. 2 Chance Lamer of Crescent Valley in the quarterfinals.
Archer Bergeron, the No. 8 seed at 138, lost to No. 1 Beau Ohlson of Mountain View in the quarterfinals. Ohlson scored a 22-7 technical fall.
