The Roseburg City Council unanimously agreed to amend the length of the agreement the city has with the American Legion Baseball Committee to 20 years.
The baseball committee requested the amendment in order to increase their chances for grant funding for facility improvements.
On June 12 the councilors approved a request to replace the grass at Legion Field with artificial turf.
Estimated costs for the project are between $640,000 and $750,000, which requires a significant amount of fundraising for the nonprofit organization, which may include grant funds. To obtain grant funds the length of the contract with the organization was something the Legion deemed important to amend.
American Legion was halfway through its 15-year contract, which started in 2009 when the city and the American Legion agreed to an initial five-year term followed by two five-year renewals.
With the amendment in length the city also required the Legion to update its general liability insurance.
