The YMCA of Douglas County is hosting Water Safety Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Stewart Park pavilion in Roseburg next to Legion Field, and also at the YMCA in Canyonville.

The free event is to educate youth and parents in becoming safer in and around the water. Awareness of the dangers of swimming, rafting or boating in the county's rivers, lakes and creeks will be discussed.

The Douglas County Sheriff's office will bring its marine rescue boat.

The event will feature learning games and a lot of giveaways.

Swim lesson certificates and life jackets will be given away at both locations. Other water safety items will also be given away to kids and their families.
