PORTLAND — Brennan Garrelts, vice president at Lone Rock Timber Management, has been named Forester of the Year by the Oregon Society of American Foresters. The award was presented at the annual meeting held May 11 in Canyonville.
The award is given annually in recognition of the recipient's contributions on both the professional and public levels. This includes the use of professional skills to advance the forestry field in Oregon and through public service which benefits the community.
Garrelts, a graduate of Willamette and Oregon State Universities, joined the organization in 2005. He's served as chapter chair and on the SAF Northwest Office committee. He has served on the Douglas and Coos Forest Protection Associations board of directors, the National Alliance of Forest Owners operating committee and the OR Forest & Industries forest management policy committee. He's also acted as chair of the OR Emergency Fire Cost Committee, as a forest industrial owner representative on the Private Forestry Accord project and on the Umpqua Community College Forestry Program Advisory Committee.
