Dollar General has opened its doors on Diamond Lake Boulevard, making it the fifth store in Douglas County.

The half-acre property was purchased in July, and the store opened the week of Dec. 3.

“It’s going well,” Store Manager Greg Nadey said. “It’s still a drive-by because of construction,” Nadey said in reference to the crew finishing up the work on Monday.

Nadey said he is getting ready for the grand opening on Saturday.

“I know when we opened up Winston, there was a sea of people,” Nadey said. “We’re bigger, so I would hope that they’re having to park at the library also.”

Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and store development, Dan Neiser said in a press release the company is committed to a pleasant shopping experience.

“That includes a convenient location, a wide assortment of merchandise and great prices on quality products,” Nieser said. “We hope our area customers will enjoy shopping at Dollar General’s new location.”

The property has a total real market value of $122,188, according to the County Assessor’s website. It is located at 2141 NE Diamond Lake Blvd. and is one of the last stores between Roseburg and Crater Lake.

Kenny Ingram said he was grateful for the store so he didn’t have to drive all the way back into town just to get wrapping paper.

“It’s close, and it’s convenient,” Ingram said. “It has everything we need, and it’s always clean. It’s a nice place when you’re going out (of town). They needed it.”

Rebecca Bauman saw the open sign, so she came in looking for stocking stuffers.

“I’ve always liked Dollar General; they have a little bit of everything,” Bauman said. “It’s a lot better. I like the way that it’s set up in the front.”

Traditional Dollar General stores employ approximately six to 10 people, depending on the need. Anyone interested in joining the Dollar General team may visit the career section at www.dollargeneral.com.

The official grand opening is 8 a.m. Dec. 15. The first 100 adult shoppers will receive a $10 Dollar General gift card and the first 200 shoppers will receive a Dollar General goodie bag. Customers can also register to win a free year of shopping from Dollar General, a prize valued at $520. Complimentary lunch of hot dogs, chips and drinks will also be provided.
