Hello from the city of Glendale!
We had three fun-filled days celebrating the Fourth of July. Throughout the three days there were many activities to participate in. There was the dunk tank, games, food, a patriotic concert in the park, kids activities and much more.
Tuesday was the parade and there were many entries. What a great time it was. Thank you to all of the volunteers and a big thank you to the Cow Creek Valley Community Association who hosts the celebration. Last but not least, a huge thank you to the Glendale Rural Fire Department for the spectacular fireworks show that it put on. It was amazing.
We would like to invite everyone to shop Glendale. Every second Monday of the month is shop Glendale day. Many of the local businesses will have goodies, sales and fun. Bring your friends and have some fun with the residents and council members.
Dollar General is building a new store here in Glendale. They are hoping to open the store somewhere between October and November. We are very excited to have another business in town that will offer more employment opportunities for the people in the community.
Through Wednesday there is a drama/dance camp that is going on. This is a great and fun event for many of the kids. It is hosted by Austin and Amanda Laurence, many thanks to them. The local Olivet Church is also offering Fun Wednesdays through Aug. 9. Kids from the ages of 5 to 12 are participating and it is a great success.
The Glendale Depot and the Douglas County Senior Services offer senior meals at 11:15 a.m. every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. They serve delicious and nutritious meals for seniors over 60 years of age. The recommended donation is $3.50.
We are making great progress in our wastewater plant improvements. We are working with different agencies to help fund our wastewater infrastructure. The facility has been in need of upgrading and we are working on the collection system. We are very happy to be able to keep the progress going forward.
The Cow Creek association is sponsoring a citywide garage sale Aug. 12 in Glendale. You can rent a space at Memorial Park to sell your treasures, or if you are here to shop, maps will be available to direct you to the many houses that are participating. We look forward to seeing you there. While you are here, stop by the beautiful City Park and enjoy our disc golf course.
There is going to be an American Red Cross blood drive July 27. The Blood Mobile will be parked at Umpqua Bank here in Glendale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please call 541-832-2488 to make an appointment to donate blood.
Have a great summer, and we hope to see you at one of our many events.
