Even though it seems like summer has just started, many athletic programs are already preparing for fall sports. Recreational activities can help students develop long-term health habits, build self esteem and help advance teamwork skills.

Below is registration information for various athletic opportunities available to youth this fall.


Registration for fall football through the Boys and Girls Club is currently open and ends Aug. 10. Football is available to fourth, fifth and sixth graders. Teams will be formed at each school, if the maximum team size is reached. Combined teams will be developed to accommodate players if the maximum of 25 players cannot be reached or the maximum number of players on a team is exceeded. Sports physicals are required for new players and all players are required to bring a report card from their previous grade. Fees are $120, with partial scholarships available. Travel to Eugene for some games will be required.

Boys and Girls Club volleyball registration is also open until Aug. 17. Third/fourth, fifth, and sixth grade teams will be formed at each school, so long as the maximum of 10 players is reached. Teams can be formed between schools if needed to achieve maximum members. Fees are $90, with partial scholarships also available. The YMCA of Douglas County hosts several fall sports for different age levels. The Itty Bitty group include 3 and 4 year olds, kindergartners can register for the Biddy group, first and second graders are considered Rookies and third and fourth graders are Winners. Basketball, football, flag football and soccer are available for all levels in the fall. Registration opens Aug. 1. Forms can be accessed online at ymcaofdouglascounty.org or by visiting member services at the Roseburg branch, 1151 NW Stewart Parkway.

Sign-ups for fall sports in Winston will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 4, 12 and 19 in the gym at Brockway Elementary School, 2520 Brockway Road, Winston. Sports include tackle football for students fourth to sixth grades, volleyball for third to sixth graders and flag football for kindergartners through third grade. The Warrior Volleyball Camp at North Douglas High School, 305 S. Main St., Drain, is set to take place Monday through Wednesday. A junior camp is available for players entering grades three to six and middle schoolers with limited experience. Senior camp is held for players entering grades seven through 12. Roseburg High School has a few summer camp options available. The 2018 Football Camp has two camps for two age groups . Youth camp will be held July 30 to Aug. 2, 6:30 to 8 p.m. High school camp will be Aug. 6 to 10, 6 to 8:30 p.m., both held at Roseburg High’s Finlay Field. Youth camp cost is $50 and high school camp is $75 and both will include a T-shirt. Boys soccer camp for grade nine through 12 will be held Aug. 6 through 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fir Grove Soccer Fields. Cost is $75. Contact Coach Giraudo with any questions at giraudosoccer@gmail.com

Information for youth tennis programs through the Umpqua Valley Tennis Center should be available on its website by the end of July. Visit umpquavalleytennis.com or call 541-673-3429 for information.


Dance class registration at Leap of Faith Dance Center is open now, though remaining openings are limited. Classes are available for ages 2 and up. Registration fees for the studio are $25 per student or $40 for a family, though a discount is offered to families. Costume fees also apply. Kathryn Howard School of Dance, 1437 NE Dee St., Roseburg, offers classes in various forms of dance for students 3 years old up to high school seniors. Registration is now open and can be completed online at roseburgdance.com or in person at the studio. Fees vary depending on how many hours a week a student participates. Chitwood Studio of Dance also has classes available, including ballet, tap and jazz. Students age seven and up are welcome. An official schedule of fall classes is pending. For more information, call Susan Chitwood at 541-673-5792.

Students in first through eighth grade are eligible to participate in Roseburg Jr. Cheer. Registration closes at the end of July. Fees vary depending on grade level and include registration fees, tuition, camp fees and other program charges. Contact Roseburg JR Cheer on Facebook for more details.


Located at 780 Northwest Garden Valley Blvd. #230, Roseburg, Umpqua Valley Gymnastics has classes from age 2 and up. Fees start at $50 and go up depending on age and class. Information can be found at umpquavalleygymnastics.org or by calling 541-672-3534.


Performance Martial Arts Academy, 760 NW Hill, Roseburg, hosts classes year round. Various classes are offered for ages 3 and up. Tuition starts at $60 a month and goes up depending on the desired class. Family discounts are available.
