A Dillard man was arrested after leading police on a chase from Winston to Roseburg Sunday night.

At around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, a Winston police officer attempted a traffic stop on a Toyota pickup which reportedly sped off toward Interstate 5, according to a press release.

When the pickup, reportedly driven by 22-year-old Joey Allen Dingus, entered I-5 going the wrong direction, the initial pursuit was suspended. The pickup then exiting the freeway at exit 124 and was later spotted at the Holiday Inn Express on West Harvard Avenue, according to court documents.

An Oregon State Police trooper spotted Dingus trying to get away from the pickup. Roseburg police also arrived, at which point Dingus reportedly fled on foot. After a brief pursuit, an officer shot Dingus with a Taser to help take the man into custody.

During the arrest, Dingus was found to have a concealed handgun.

Dingus was lodged in the Douglas County Jail on charges of attempting to elude both by vehicle and on foot, felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, reckless driving and reckless endangering.
