A Glendale woman has been convicted of first-degree manslaughter for her involvement in the death of her 7-week-old child.
Amanda Marie Hancock, 23, amended her plea from not guilty to no contest before Douglas County Circuit Court Judge George Ambrosini on Tuesday morning. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with credit for time served. First-degree manslaughter is a Measure 11 crime that carries a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years upon conviction.
In January 2015, Douglas County Emergency Communications received a 911 call regarding an infant that was not breathing in the city of Glendale. Law enforcement arrived at the scene and attempted to perform CPR but the child had already died.
An autopsy was conducted by the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office and it was found the child had starved to death.
In February 2015, both Hancock and her partner, Stephen Williams, were interviewed by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. They told detectives they both fed the child multiple ounces of milk at multiple times during the day, according to court documents. Hancock and Williams also told police there was no prenatal care and they did not visit the doctor after the child was born.
Williams told police he thought the child had lost some weight, but didn’t call the doctor because that was Hancock’s responsibility.
Hancock and Williams also told police they both worked in the online porn industry and that Hancock would self-lactate to people that would pay to watch her online.
Hancock was scheduled to appear before a 12-person jury on June 8, but amended her plea prior to the trial Tuesday morning. A single charge of first-degree criminal mistreatment and four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor were dismissed.
Williams is scheduled for a jury trial in April 2017. In March 2015, he pleaded not guilty to murder, first-degree criminal mistreatment and four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.
