A Roseburg man crashed the street sweeper he was driving into a power pole early Tuesday morning, according to the Roseburg Police Department.

At approximately 12:32 a.m., Jeffrey Michael Richter, 35, allegedly drove off the road near the intersection of Northeast Stephens Street and Northeast Timberlake Street to avoid hitting a deer.

But while swerving, Richter rolled the 2016 Ford F-450 street sweeper, owned by AAA Sweep, several times and crashed into a nearby power pole.

When police arrived and began to investigate they found a small amount of methamphetamine in Richter's possession. He was arrested and lodged at the Douglas County Jail.

The vehicle was towed from the area and Pacific Power responded to fix the damaged pole.
