Ethan Hackett of Riddle took firs place in the One County, One Book program organized by Altrusa International of Roseburg during the Celebration of Literacy.

Three community libraries — Riddle, Yoncalla and Sutherlin — participated in the event by asking seventh and eighth graders to read "New Kid" by Jerry Craft and then asking the students to create a visual project about the book.

Misty Randall of Riddle took second place and Crystal Randall of Riddle and Kellsie Engelstadt of Sutherlin tied for third place.

Each winner received a monetary award.

The program was devised as part of Celebration of Literacy with COVID-19 and social distancing in mind. It was necessary to make all activities related socially distanced this year, but several of the events were such a success they may be continued another year, according to co-organizer Maxine Durst.
