Roseburg Public Schools is accepting applications for the school board seat vacated by Steve Patterson until May 19.

Patterson resigned last month, and the position will expire June 30.

Ann Krimetz and Keith Longie are running for the position in the May 18 special election. The school board will give priority consideration to the winning candidate.

However, in the event the winning candidate does not wish to start prior to July 1 the board will review the other candidates and appoint another candidate during its May 26 meeting.

People interested in serving on the board of directors must submit a written letter of interest to the office of the superintendent. To be eligible, a person must be a registered voter, a resident of the district for at least one year prior to the appointment and not employed by the school district.
