South Umpqua High School will hold its graduation ceremony at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 1, at the high school’s Loghry Field, 501 Chadwick Lane, Myrtle Creek. Autumn Howard will be the guest speaker.

Rachel Araiza is valedictorian. She is the daughter of Julie and James Araiza of Myrtle Creek. Her activities and honors include drama club president, varsity soccer captain, National Honor Society member, a 2017 Umpqua Community College writing award, and the 2017 Evening of Excellence science award. Araiza plans to attend Pacific University, double majoring in environmental science and journalism.

Megan Kinney is the salutatorian. She is the daughter of Kimberly Kinney and Jeff McKenna of Myrtle Creek. Her activities and honors include basketball captain, softball, Student Council treasurer, and National Honor Society member. Kinney will be attending Washington State and participating in the their pre-physical therapy track and minoring in American sign language.

The 2018 honor graduates are: Rachel Kathleen Araiza, Megan Lee Kinney, Daisy Jane Louise Brown, Katlyn Clarenda Sheely, Jessica Ilene Kalebaugh, Savannah Belle Slay, Shammah Scott Quintana, Taylor James Gross, Johnathan Michael Warner, and Race O’Brien Cockrell.
