Douglas County seeks applicants for a number of committees that advise the county commissioners on a range of topics from parks to solid waste to traffic safety.

The Douglas County Senior Services Advisory Council has six vacancies, three representing central Douglas County, two representing North County and one representing West County.

Members help identify needs of the elderly in Douglas County and help evaluate programs and develop services for them. Meetings are held at 1 p.m. the second Wednesday of each quarter at the Douglas County Courthouse.

The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Friday.

The Douglas County Industrial Development Board has one vacancy. Applicants must reside in Douglas County, be able to attend meetings at 10:30 a.m. the third Tuesday of each month, be knowledgeable about the county’s business and economic conditions and recognize the need for diversified industry.

Applications are due 5 p.m. Dec. 15.

The Traffic Safety Committee has three vacancies. The commission promotes traffic safety activities and programs and advises the county commissioners about traffic safety issues. Meetings are at 7 p.m. the fourth Tuesday each month.

Applications are due 5 p.m. Dec. 15.

The Solid Waste Advisory Committee seeks applicants for one at-large member. The committee meets quarterly and handles issues related to solid waste, including franchise waste haulers and rate changes.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. Dec. 15.

The Parks Advisory Board is recruiting for a representative of the county’s coastal area. The board is made up of citizens who advise the county commissioner and parks director on parks department policies and the annual parks budget. The county is looking to diversify the pool of applicants, according to a recent news release. Members should be county residents who have demonstrated interest and experience related to the parks department’s needs. Experience with government, board operations, recreation management and planning is preferred. Members serve four-year terms and are expected to attend monthly meetings and actively engage with the geographic part of the county they represent.

Applications are due 5 p.m. Dec. 31.
