The Glide transfer station is open, and the county has no plans to close it.

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners issued an open letter to East County residents Wednesday in an effort to counter a rumor that swept through the area over the past week.

The letter said commissioners became aware on Saturday that "false and misleading information" was being disseminated in Glide and surrounding areas, including at the transfer site itself. The rumor incorrectly suggested the transfer site would be closing.

"At no time has the Board of Commissioners ever contemplated or discussed any action to close or partially close the Glide Transfer Site, currently or in the future," the letter said.

It said the commissioners always operate transparently and that they are "deeply disturbed" by a rumor suggesting they would take such an action without public process.
