Local governments prepare next year's budgets

Now is the time for people to get involved in helping local government agencies plan how they will spend money for the coming year.

From school boards, to fire and water districts, to city councils and county commissions, local officials across Douglas County have a slew of meetings planned to construct and adopt budgets for the 2017-18 fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30, 2018.

Usually city governments begin planning out their budgets at a budget committee meeting once they know how much they will receive in state revenues. Then they host a public hearing at which city councils adopt the budgets.

Following are budget meeting and hearing dates for cities across Douglas County, including the county budget. They may be subject to change as dates draw nearer. Contact the respective city hall for more information. The deadline for the tax assessor to receive finalized budgets is July 15.
