DOUGLAS COUNTY — Douglas County Commissioners celebrated National Search and Rescue Week by issuing a proclamation to Search and Rescue coordinators and volunteers prior to their weekly business meeting last week.
A release said the county SAR currently has 88 community volunteers that train with a number of volunteer SAR groups. That includes a communications team, mounted team, ground team, 4x4 team, snow cat team, logistics team and several more. In 2022, the coordinators and volunteers completed 107 missions, utilizing 97 volunteers who donated nearly 10,800 hours of their time.
National Search and Rescue Week was May 16-22. It was established in 2010 via a resolution in the United States Senate.
Commissioners presented proclamation certificates to Sheriff John Hanlin and SAR deputy Larissa May, as well as a number of SAR volunteers.
