The Sutherlin Post Office was unexpectedly closed on Thursday afternoon. A handwritten sign taped to the front door of the office read, “closed due to cleaning” and the inner doors leading to the service area of the post office were closed and locked.

Nominations are being accepted for the 65th annual Sutherlin First Citizens Awards. Categories include Man and Woman of the Year, Inspirational Leader, Outstanding Service Award and Outstanding Business. Nominations will be accepted until March 19.

A former teacher with the Yoncalla School District was arrested by Sutherlin police Tuesday on suspicion of online sexual corruption of a child and luring a minor, according to the Sutherlin Police Department.

SUTHERLIN — December had already been a tough month for 30-year-old Crystal Jensen of Sutherlin. She lost the place where she was living and had been couch-hopping for most of December. She lost her truck earlier in the month, was jobless and her two kids had to stay with her parents.
