Sutherlin city recorder Debbie Hamilton took up office as the 2016-2017 vice president of the Oregon Association of Municipal Recorders.

Hamilton received the oath of office at the association’s annual conference banquet in Ashland Sept. 23.

Hamilton has been an active member of the association since 2001. She has served on numerous committees, including the Membership Committee, Conference Committee, Special Projects/Fundraising Committee, Internet Committee, Historical Preservation Committee, Professional Image Committee, Newsletter Committee, Education & Scholarship Committee, Retired Clerks Committee, and Nominating Committee.

She served as a mentor from 2004 to 2005, then 2013 to 2015. She received Certified Municipal Clerk designation in 2004 from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and is currently in process of applying for her Master Municipal Clerk designation.

Hamilton was the Region IV Director from 2005 to 2007. She is involved with Sutherlin Chamber of Commerce, a member of Sutherlin Family Church, and loves spending time with her family and friends.

Hamilton has worked for the city of Sutherlin for over 23 years. She worked as a utility billing specialist for eight years, assistant court clerk from 1994 to 2014, then deputy city recorder from 2001 to 2013. She has been in her current position as the city recorder, human relations manager, and website/social media manager since June 2013.
