Zhanna wins title of Belly Dancer USA 2017

Zhanna, of Las Vegas, Nevada, won the title of Belly Dancer USA 2017 at the competition at Seven Feathers in Canyonville.

CANYONVILLE —  The 35th annual Belly Dancer USA will be held at the Seven Feathers Casino Resort Convention Center on June 2-3 with a live music competition scheduled for the evening of the June 2.

Dancers are registered from all over the U.S. to compete in 13 different categories.

Saturday morning will start out with the hobbyist category for dancers who dance just for fun, and then duets will grace the stage.

After the duet category, is the professional alternative music category where dancers can use any music they want except for Middle Eastern.

The "Dance of the Seven Veils" category has only one rule: Every dance has to include seven veils.

Ending the afternoon will be the CD improvisation category where dancers will draw a number and won’t know what music they are performing to until they hit the stage.

Saturday evening will be the prestigious professional live music category, with music performed by the band Arabesque. Ten competitors will dance with special guest dancer Cassandra Rose, Belly Dancer USA 2012.

Sunday starts with the alternative music category for nonprofessionals followed by the goddess category for dancers 45 years and older, and the Golden Girls category for dancers 55 and older.

Next will be the troupe category and then a new category, stayin’ alive disco, the result of another ‘Mezdulene Wild Hair.’

Dancers will draw for position and won’t know what their music is until they take the stage.

The Belly Dancer USA category will finish out the competition on Sunday evening, with judges choosing the top three contenders out of a host of dancers from all over the United States.
