South Umpqua Memorial Pool has been cooling off the community since 1963. With the support of the community, specifically a group named “The Friends of the Pool Task Force,” the pool has continued to repair, renovate, and provide a variety of classes and activities throughout the years.

The pool currently has a two-story tube slide and two-person family slide, as well as family swim and classes. This summer, pool manager Josh Norton, said they would like to add a splash pad similar to the one in Sutherlin.

“That’s the main focus of our Friends of the Pool Task Force. Fundraising is ongoing and we have some fundraising events that will be scheduled in the near future,” he said.

The pool will open on June 9. There is swimming lessons offered in both the mornings and afternoons, running on two-week sessions. Water exercise classes and lap swim are offered three times a day on weekdays.

Public swim is offered seven days a week from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Evening swim is Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Family Swim is on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $1.00 per person for public swim.

“We’re excited to get things going,” said Norton.

The pool is located at 710 NE Bataan Ave., in Myrtle Creek. For pool information, call 541-863-6805.
