After multiple delays and a change in representation, Gary Lloyd McConkey Jr. is scheduled to stand trial in Douglas County Circuit Court in May on 54 counts of sex crimes against a female family member.
McConkey, 43, is charged with 18 counts of first-degree sodomy, 13 counts of incest, 12 counts of first-degree sex abuse and 11 counts of first-degree rape. The crimes — laid out in a 20-page Douglas County Circuit Court indictment filed Jan. 15 — are alleged to have been committed against a female family member from when the victim was younger than 16 into adulthood.
Five plea and sentencing hearings had been scheduled and ultimately postponed before McConkey’s defense attorney, Andrew D. Johnson, withdrew from the case, citing “a complete breakdown in the attorney-client relationship.”
Bend-based defense attorney Martin E. Thompson took over McConkey’s defense on Oct. 21.
The 12-person jury trial is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 3, and last for two weeks. Douglas County Circuit Court Judge Frances Burge will preside.
