Three Riddle residents have been reported missing after being last seen on Friday, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Melvin Hawkins, 86, and his wife, Alice Hawkins, 80, were reported missing by a family member who had not heard from the Riddle couple since Friday, Sept. 1. Officials issued a missing person report Sunday evening.

According to the sheriff’s office, the couple was last known to be with their neighbor, 70-year-old Sharon Buchanan. The three reportedly went for a drive in a blue 2005 PT Cruiser with an Oregon license plate number of XBP679. The group’s destination or intended plans are unknown, but police say the three left at approximately 3 p.m.

Melvin Hawkins is described as 5-foot-7 inches tall, 190 pounds, with white hair and brown eyes.

Alice Hawkins is described 5-foot-4 inches, 150 pounds, which white hair and brown eyes.

Buchanan is described as 5-foot-5 inches, 145 pounds, with gray hair and hazel eyes.

We have seen this again and again. PLEASE tell people where you are going when you leave even for a short trip to the mountains. At least leave a note letting people know your intentions. And always carry some sort of communications. If they had their cell phones on them and those phones were turned on that could be a source of locating them. We tell our children to let us know where they are going we need to do the same.
