A 14-year-old Roseburg High School student was arrested after allegedly writing a threat in the girl’s bathroom Tuesday morning.

The girl initially reported the threat and an investigation revealed she was the one responsible for writing it, police said.

She was charged with first-degree disorderly conduct and second-degree criminal mischief and lodged in juvenile detention.

The threat implied violence on a future date, according to a prepared statement from Superintendent Gerry Washburn.

This is the second school threat that has been found at Roseburg High School this year and the seventh school threat reported countywide.

A previous threat was found in the girl’s bathroom the day after the mass-shooting in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 people dead.

Washburn said staff will follow policy for future school disciplinary action and will work to ensure the student responsible is receiving support and supervision.

“We continue to ask parents to remind children and teens that making any kind of threat carries serious consequences,” he wrote.

From December to February, there were 69 safety threats reported across the state to the Safe Oregon tip line, a resource for students to disclose school safety threats that is run by the Oregon State Police. Those 69 threats marked an 86 percent increase from the previous quarter, according to data from Safe Oregon.
