The Sutherlin Police Department is seeking information from the public to identify at least two vandals who caused extensive damage to the City of Oakland's Christmas Tree last week.

Three surveillance videos near the intersection of Locust and Second streets in Oakland show at least two people involved in damaging the 20-foot tree at approximately 12:20 a.m. Thursday morning.

In the first video, a person is seen walking around the front of the tree while the star atop the tree is clearly being jostled. A second video shows the star being carried down the side of the tree. The third video shows a 1990's Honda Civic Hatchback turning south onto Old Highway 99.

The tree, its lighting and decorations sustained damage during the crime.

There is a reward for information leading to the identities and prosecution of the parties involved.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sutherlin Police Department via the Douglas County Emergency Communications nonemergency line at 541-440-4471, or by emailing

Donovan Brink can be reached at and 541-957-4219.
