Flag stolen from Glide Veterans Memorial Wall

A $200 reward is being offered for information leading to the identification of a thief who stole an American flag from the Glide Veterans Memorial Wall, at the Glide Community Center.

Veterans discovered Thursday morning that an American flag and an attaching lanyard had been stolen off the flagpole at the memorial.

This year’s annual Glide Memorial Day Ceremonies will be held with a replacement flag. The ceremonies begin at 10 a.m. May 28. The replacement flag will be lowered by Oregon Army National Guard Charlie Company.

There will also be a wreath laying by World War II veterans Frank Moore and Arnold Ebert, both of whom participated in the Normandy landing during the war.

The event will also recognize World War I veterans, since it’s the 100th anniversary of the end of that war in 1918.

Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin will attend the ceremony, which will also include speeches, special music, bugle calls and bagpipe music.

This year’s orchestra will present its free spring concert 7 p.m. May 29 at the Umpqua Community College Jacoby Auditorium.
