Roseburg National Cemetery will host a wreath-laying ceremony in December to honor military veterans.

Patriot Guard Riders and volunteers are coordinating the event to honor veterans of each branch of the military, the Merchant Marines and Prisoners of War and those still Missing in Action.

The ceremony will begin at noon on Dec. 14 at the Roseburg National Cemetery Annex at the Roseburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 913 NW Garden Valley Blvd., Roseburg.

The Wreaths Across America ceremony is one of 1,600 planned across the country. It started with the Worcester Wreath Company of Harrington, Maine, which began donating holiday wreaths to the Arlington National Cemetery in 1992.

Since 2006, the wreaths have also been given as tributes to veterans laid to rest at national and state veterans cemeteries across the country, including in Roseburg.

That makes this the 14th year the ceremony that has been held in Roseburg.
