There should not be much controversy around the school bond measure on next Tuesday’s ballot. None of us would let our personal residences age without significant improvements, and neither should we stand by while our school building improvements remain idle.
First, our school buildings have compromised infrastructure because of their age.
Second, there is no security infrastructure in any of the buildings.
Third, few buildings have true HVAC systems for the health of the students.
Fourth, there is really no personal financial excuse for allowing our schools to remain unchanged for essentially 40 years, and I am on a fixed income as many of our citizens are.
The writing is on the wall, and we must pay attention to our educational system because it impacts each and every one of us no matter our circumstances. This bond is smart, affordable and necessary.
Turn your ballot in before it is too late. Vote yes for Roseburg Public Schools and our community. It is our mutual responsibility to do so.
