LAKEWOOD, Wash. — The Linn-Benton Community College volleyball team, featuring a pair of former South Umpqua High School standouts, posted a win over Skagit Valley in straight sets in a semifinal match of the Northwest Athletic Conference Elite 8 on Saturday at Pierce College.

Scores were 25-23, 25-20, 25-20.

Shalyn Gray finished with 11 kills and 11 digs and Sydnie Johnson had 23 assists for the Roadrunners (31-2).

Earlier Saturday, LBCC defeated Edmonds 19-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-15. Gray had nine kills and six digs, while Johnson contributed 23 assists and five digs.

The Roadrunners downed Bellevue Friday 25-14, 25-12, 21-25, 25-20.

The tournament concludes Sunday.

Gray, a freshman outside hitter, was selected the South Region MVP as the Roadrunners went unbeaten with a 16-0 record. Johnson, a sophomore setter, made the second team.
