FLORENCE — The Sutherlin baseball team defeated Siuslaw 10-5 in the season opener for both clubs on Tuesday.
Bryson McGarvey pitched the win, allowing five hits and two earned runs with six strikeouts and five walks over six innings.
Waylon McKnight went 2-for-3 with two walks, a double, two RBIs and two runs for the Bulldogs. Tauj Flora was 2-for-3 with two walks, a triple and two runs, while freshman Jake Narkiewicz walked four times and scored three times. Sutherlin drew 16 free passes in the contest.
"We did some great things today for early season baseball," Sutherlin coach Bret Prock said. "Bryson threw pretty well, and we were patient and disciplined at the plate."
Sutherlin is scheduled to host Creswell Thursday in a nonleague contest.
