SALEM — The Sutherlin girls basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season, whipping Amity 47-17 on Saturday to conclude the Crusader Classic hosted by Salem Academy.

Junior guard Micah Wicks scored 22 of her game-high 24 points in the first half for the Bulldogs (10-1). Wicks had 14 points as Sutherlin took a 21-2 lead after one quarter.

Sutherlin — which is ranked No. 1 in the OSAA Class 3A coaches poll — lost 41-39 Friday to Gervais, No. 1 in 2A.

Freshman post Addyson Clark chipped in 11 points for the Bulldogs. Ellie McMullen scored seven points for the Warriors (7-4), who are No. 10 in the 3A coaches poll.

"I was really happy with the way we responded today," Sutherlin coach Josh Grotting said. "We were bad in all phases yesterday, and it showed us we have to be ready to compete every day. We played with more intensity."

Sutherlin is scheduled to travel to Adair Village Friday for a nonleague contest with Santiam Christian (9-3). The Eagles are No. 4 in 3A.
